[Johannesburg, 1 November 2002] - Local commercial radio
station, Metro fm, is about to roll-out an interactive service
using patented technology from Mybeat - a company founded
by Mark Shuttleworth's innovation fund, HBD Venture Capital.
The service is due to roll-out later this month.
HBD announced its investment in Mybeat Interactive Technologies
earlier this year. Its technology enables radio listeners
get more information about a song, advertisement or promotion
on the radio station. Information is received instantly
via SMS and is also logged on the Mybeat Web site.
The mobile music service has been piloted nationally with
Metro FM and regionally with Classic FM and a number of
other stations. Mybeat marketing director and co-founder
Rodney Kuhn says: "The results from our pilots have
been extremely positive.
"Mybeat's newest offering, StudioSMS, is also reported
to be drawing widespread interest from radio stations and
advertisers, with Western Cape station KFM to go live with
it in time for the December holiday season. StudioSMS enables
radio stations to launch interactive SMS shows, competitions
and voting.
"The Mybeat launch will open the door to a revolution
in music and we expect that it could potentially transform
interactivity on radio," says Wayne Silbermann, Mybeat
director of business development.
